Active students will work with the master teacher and a pianist . The masterclass includes 4 lessons of 45 minutes with Daniel Ottevaere and a pianist Virgile Van Essche.

Daniel Ottevaere was born in Brussels. He studies singing, art lyric and melody in Brussels (1st Prize at 19 years in the class of Jules Bastin at the Royal Conservatory of Music), in Vienna (with Hans Hotter) and in Castelfranco-Veneto (with Claude Thiolas) in Italy. It then settles in France (Paris then Lille) and studied for four years at the Ecole de the Paris Opera (with Michel Sénéchal and Denise Dupleix) and with Daniel Delarue. His meeting with José Van Dam (his current master), a few years ago, is of decisive importance for his vocal and artistic accomplishment.
After his debut at the Paris Opera in L’Orfeo Monteverdi (starring Antoine Vitez), it is regularly guest on many French scenes and international.
He sings at the Paris Opera (Salome, L’Heure espagnole, Rigoletto, Manon, Die Zauberflöte, Ariadne auf Naxos, La Belle Hélène, Dialogues des Carmelites, Le Petit Ramoneur, Pélléas and Mélisande, etc.); to Marseille Opera (Christopher Columbus, Die Zauberflöte, Pearl Fishermen, Night Flight, Thailand, Die Meistersinger von Nuremberg); at the Nancy Opera House (Lucrezia Borgia, The Damnation of Faust, Boulevard Solitude, Le Nozze de Figaro, La Fanciulla del West, Der Rosenkavalier); at the Bordeaux Opera (Gianni Schicchi, Ariadne auf Naxos, Eugen Onegin, A Midsummer Night’s Dream); at the Capitol of Toulouse (Traviata, Rigoletto); at the Montpellier Opera (Night Flight, Traviata); at the Metz Opera (Cenerentola, Salome); at the Opera d’Avignon (Les Pêcheurs de Perles, Thailand); at the Nantes Opera (Khovanchtchina);

He plays several roles in global creations: Henze ’s English Pussy (Opera comics), Doktor Faustus by K. Boehmer (Palais Garnier), The Master and Marguerite by Y. Höller (Palais Garnier), Battistelli Orchestra Prova (Rhine Opera), G. Scelsi’s Yamaon as part of the Season Philharmonic of Fine Arts in Brussels, accompanied by the Ensemble Musiques Nouvelles (Creation Belgian).
In concert, he performs The Damnation of Faust and the Childhood of Christ by Berlioz, Requiem and Mass of the Coronation of Mozart, Theresienmesse and Die Sieben letzten Worte unseres Erlösers am Haydn’s Kreuze, Bach’s Magnificat and Cantatas 140, 211, 85 and 82, Schumann’s Dichterliebe, Schubert’s Winterreise and Lieder, Haendel’s Alexander’s Feast, Requiem and Lieder’s Brahms. He also sings for Radio France: War and Peace, Salome, La Forza del Destino, Beatitudes, lyrical concerts, etc.
He sings with prestigious artists such as Sumi Jo, Léonie Rysanek, Montserrat Caballé, Regina Crespin, Ruggero Raimondi, Barbara Hendricks, José Van Dam, Nicolai Gedda, June Anderson, Hans Hotter, Eva Marton, Bernd Weikl, Alfredo Kraus, Galina Vichnievskaïa, Roberto Alagna; under the direction Chefs Marek Janowski, Georges Prêtre, Michelangelo Veltri, Marcello Viotti, Armin Jordan, Mtislav Rostropovitch, Michel Plasson, Jean Fournet, Mynng Whun Chung, Bruno Campanella, Marc Minkowski; et works with directors such as Jean-Louis Martinoty, Antoine Vitez, Georges Lavaudant, Marcel Bluwal, Jérôme Savary, Robert Carsen, André Engel, Georges Lavelli, Dieter Dorn, etc.
He participates in several recordings: The Pretty Girl of Perth, The Postillon de Longjumeau and La Muette de Portici (at EMI), the Beatitudes, War and Peace (at Erato), Boulevard Solitude (at Cascavelle) and King Arthus (at Koch).
In addition to his singing activities, Daniel Ottevaere has signed five screenplays (and adaptations): “Offenbach sur Canapé” (2001) and “Cabaret Chauve-Souris” (2007), two productions of the company the Clef des Chants; the Cantata du Café by J.S. Bach for Musical Meetings Enghien Internationals (Belgium, 2008); Bastien and Bastienne of W.A. Mozart for the Phoenix (scene Valenciennes National, 2014); and Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro with lyrical company I Giocosi (2019; Paris, 11th).
Willing to transmit, Daniel Ottevaere teaches singing to the Paris Normal School of Music, at the Music Chapel Queen Elisabeth in Brussels (alongside José Van Dam) as well at the Conservatoire de Valenciennes. We could hear him give course on France Musique (broadcast by Stéphane Goldet, ” the Singers’ Workshop ”). In the early 2000s, we could hear him in the role of Schlendrian from the Cantata du Café, Enghien and Brussels; during the creation of Vigilia by Gustav Rihm (Creation in Belgium as part of the Bozar season with the Ensemble Musiques Nouvelles); in recital in “Diabolus in Musica” (in Paris, at Nancy, in Belgium), and in “Around Don Giovanni: Eros – Thanatos” in Normandy (with Jean-Baptiste Lhermelin); in Winterreise, in Paris and at the Nancyphonies Festival; in recital with José Van
Dam at the Salle Flagey in Brussels; in a Russian recital (Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov and Schostakovich) at Porrentruy Festival in Switzerland; in the role of Alasdair (St-Kilda) at the Edinburgh Festival and in Grenoble; in Monterone (Rigoletto) in the production of the Open Air Operas, directed by Francis Perrin; with the Bratislava orchestra at the Nancyphonies Festival in the tunes of Mozart and Haydn, in the role by Inigo Gomez (L’Heure Espagnole), by Uncle Tchang (The Land of Smiles) and in the recital “Audelà du Rhin “at the Nancyphonies Festival. He was also in concert in Mons (Belgium) alongside Gabrielle Philiponet, Yann Beuron and Jeff Cohen, as well as in the Gaveau room for scenes from Schweigsame Frau by Richard Strauss (role of Morosus) with the European Romantic Orchestra under the direction of Lionel Stoléru, alongside Judith Magre as a narrator, and at the Festival des Rencontres Musicales Internationales of Enghien (Belgium) for songs by Verdi.
He gave a recital with pianist Jeff Cohen (“Funny people, these people!” – melodies French) in Nancy (July 2014) and in Belgium (Mons, December 2015). It was Uberto in the Serva Padrona de Pergolesi (Valenciennes, November 2015). In January and May 2017, he was Don Alfonso in the Cosi fan tutte by Mozart (Paris and Valenciennes).
In July 2017, as part of the Nancyphonies, he created the recital “Conte d’Hoffmann” with the pianist Hugues Leclère and the actor Alain Carré. This musical and literary fantasy, imagined and sung by Daniel Ottevaere pays homage to the work of the writer and composer E. T. A. Hoffmann. So are gathered, on the occasion of a concert-show: the musical pieces of Hoffmann himself (Ondine, Miserere), the works of other composers (Busoni, Wagner, Berlioz …) inspired by Hoffmann, and the texts of great fantastic writer (extracts from tales read by A. Carré).
During the 2017/2018 season, he was also Don Tritemio in Il filosofo di campagna by B. Galuppi, the Voice of Coal in the Cantata of the mine of E. Bozza, and Bartolo as well than Antonio in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro.
In 2019, as part of the Estivales Lyriques of Wissant, he interpreted the Cantata of the peasants and the Coffee Cantata by J.-S. Bach, but also the role by Don Inigo in L’Heure Espagnol by Ravel. He was in November Pausanias in L’Education missed by Chabrier at the Cultural Center of Durbuy (Belgium), in the staging of Natacha Kowalski, before rediscover the roles of Bartolo and Antonio in Le Nozze di Figaro (new production of Giocosi, Paris 11e), which he also directed.
He started the year 2020 in the role of Don Alfonso, before interpreting Sarastro, the Sprecher and the 2nd man of arms of the Zauberflöte with the orchestra Valentiana.
In 2021, he gave a recital around the vocal work of Beethoven at the Nancyphonies festival, at the Estivales lyriques de Wissant the recital “La Mer” (Fliegende Holländer/ Wagner, Bach, Schubert) before being Leporello by Don Giovanni, just like for the Estivales du XI e in Paris last August.
Next summer he will sing Mephisto in “Airs et Scènes” from Faust by Gounod at the Estivales Lyriques de Wissant, before being Bartolo and Antonio from Nozze di Figaro, which he will also direct.
